Series: Book 1, Alex Craft
Summary: As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic. But even though she’s on good terms with Death himself—who happens to look fantastic in a pair of jeans—nothing has prepared her for her latest case. Alex is investigating a high profile murder when she’s attacked by the ‘shade’ she’s raising, which should be impossible. To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her. Guess he likes having her around...
To solve this case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews. Falin seems to be hiding something—though it’s certainly not his dislike of Alex—but Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer wielding a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life...and her soul. Thoughts: I loved Grave Witch it was so freaking awesome! I read the synopsis and it sounded like a really awesome book so I read it almost straight away after buying it.
The mystery kept deepening and I found myself really caught up in it. You think that things are straight forward; or as straight forward as they would be in the magical world, but then something else would go wrong and it was just so engrossing that I couldn’t help but keep reading.
The characters were all really interesting and I loved Alex, she was independent and kick ass which makes her amazing. Death was a curious character; I was definitely intrigued by him even though we didn’t actually get to see a whole lot of him in the book. Falin was also another interesting character and throughout the book I found myself guessing about what he could be hiding.
There were a couple of surprises in the plot that I was really surprised at. I’m curious to know how they develop some of these further in later books.
I really liked the way the world was built in Grave Witch. It’s like our world but with a little bit of magic added in. I’m curious to find out if there are only fey and witches or if other supernatural creatures will show up later on.
Overall, I absolutely loved Grave Witch and I am so glad I have the next book on my shelf because I cannot wait to read it!
