Meme of Reading Questions

As I'm having a bit of a slow reading time, I got this meme off Booking Through Thursday and have decided to take part in it.

1. Favorite childhood book?
Chicken Licken I'm not sure of the author though because there are so many versions.

2. What are you reading right now?
Jack of Shadows by Roger Zelazny
Heartless by Sara Shepard
Think of a Number by John Verdon
Face of Betrayal by Lis Wiehl and April Henry
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey
Wanted by Sara Shepard
Torment by Lauren Kate
Kiss in the Dark by Lauren Henderson

4. Bad book habit?
I don't really have any bad book habits.

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
Heartless by Sara Shepard

6. Do you have an e-reader?
No I use my laptop

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
Well, looking at what I'm reading at the moment, several. But I actually prefer reading one book at a time, it's just lately I've been going through a reading slump so I just haven't been able to settle on one book.

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
I seem to read a lot more YA now that I've started a blog but lately I've been reading more adult fiction again. But still reading a majority of YA.

9. Least favorite book you read this year (so far?)
Ummmmm hmmmmm I would probably say Newes From the Dead by Mary Hooper, just because all the other books I've read this year I've enjoyed more than that one.

10. Favorite book you’ve read this year?
Hard to choose between Killer by Sara Shepard or The Iron King by Julie Kagawa, either way they are both awesome.

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Barely ever, at the moment I'm being forced to read Jack of Shadows by Roger Zelazny which isn't something I would normally read but it seems alright so far.

12. What is your reading comfort zone?
I like to stick to adult authors I know are popular. I read more YA because some adult books have content I'm not too fond of.  I don't tend to read historical fiction or romance novels.

13. Can you read on the bus?
Yep, I often spend a whole day on a bus so I get a lot of reading done then.

14. Favorite place to read?
In a big comfy chair with a blanket over me if it's cold.

15. What is your policy on book lending?
I only lend to people I know will take the best care of my books.

16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
Definitely not!

17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
Nope, I don't like to do anything like that to my books.

18.  Not even with text books?
Not really, but I did once in pencil and I rubbed it out afterwards.

19. What is your favorite language to read in?
English, I'm not so flash at any other languages.

20. What makes you love a book?
Mostly, an amazing mystery.  Or some kind of mind-blowing twist in the plot that leaves me stunned.

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
If I found it to be unputdownable or just a really well-written and interesting read.

22. Favorite genre?
Mystery, Fantasy

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
Probably horror, I just haven't found any horrors I wanted to read.

Favorite biography?
Probably the Marilyn Manson one, it was just interesting.

25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
Yeah, I think I've read a couple for review.

26. Favorite cookbook?
Edmond's Cookbook, the best cookbook ever.

27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
I'm not sure, I don't think any of the books have been inspiring. Unless I say Killer by Sara Shepard inspired me to read more mystery books.

28. Favorite reading snack?
Hmmm not sure, some sort of lollies anyway I have a massive sweet tooth.

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
Ummmm probably the seventh Harry Potter book, it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
Quite often, but everyone has different opinions on things.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
It doesn't really bother me because my blog is my personal thing so I can give my honest opinion on a book and thats what I do.

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
Probably Welsh because that language fascinates me.

33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?
I'm not sure, I think The Host by Stephenie Meyer was quite intimidating, I was just too scared to start it for a really long time.

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
Hmmm not sure. I'm a little confused about what intimidated means.

35. Favorite Poet?
Probably Shakespeare, I don't really read much poetry though.

36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
I used to get out about 10-20 books at a time but these days it's usually 1-3, I'm trying to reduce my reading pile.

37. How often have you returned a book to the library unread?
I used to do that all the time but these days I'm pretty good at reading all the books I get out.

38. Favorite fictional character?
Hmm probably either Alanna from the Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce or Katsa from Graceling by Kristen Cashore.

39. Favorite fictional villain?
Hmmmm maybe Voldemort from Harry Potter just because he's quite prominent. Plus, if you've seen A Very Potter Musical, you kind of get a soft spot for Voldemort.

40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
Anything in my reading pile really, but the Harry Potter series probably.

41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
I think a week, when I had to do some very serious study for exams, but apart from that I've always been reading something.

42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
I've actually finished every book I've ever started so I can't say I've ever not finished a book.

43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
Television, sometimes if there's a tv show on when I'm reading I'll get distracted.

44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
Probably The Da Vinci Code

45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
The Series of Unfortunate Events, ever since I saw that I've tended to avoid watching film adaptions.

46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
About $130, it was my first time visiting a Borders.

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
Never, I don't like spoilers and they'll usually pop up if I skim.

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
I don't think anything would because I tend to finish a book to the end even if I really don't like it.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
Definitely, I just prefer things to be neat and organised.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
I like to keep most of my books, sometimes I'll give my books away but not often.

51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?
For a really long time I'd been avoiding Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead but I'm actually enjoying it.

52. Name a book that made you angry.
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.  Just because they kept going in circles and the characters drove me crazy.

53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?
House of Many Ways by Diana Wynne Jones

Probably the Pretty Little Liars books by Sara Shepard.

  1. I've totally been in a reading slump too! It's like I go-go-go and read a ton and then I'm afraid what I read next won't be as good.

  2. :O! You read The Iron King! That is so wicked. My library doesn't have it so I'm a bit down in the dumps (which isn't helping my reading slump). And ditto on The Host being intimidating. It's so huge, I'm afraid to start it!
